Meet Rena Smith
Artist and member of the Chickasaw Nation
In 2008, Rena Smith, artist and member of the Chickasaw Nation, began a journey to build a deeper connection to her heritage.
Not long after discovering the art and craft of making traditional Chickasaw pucker toe moccasins, Rena was honored to receive a special invitation to mentor with Chickasaw tribal elder and Hall of Fame inductee, Gene Underwood. Based on the knowledge passed to him by his father, Mr. Underwood worked with Rena as she studied and learned the finer details of Chickasaw traditional art.
Later, Rena explored sewing and crafting traditional regalia. Her attention to detail and careful work resulted in a variety of beautiful, traditional pieces.
Today, Rena designs and crafts her artwork and regalia from her home in Scappoose, Oregon with her horse, cat and rabbit.
